Rattle noise going over bumps, under front floor board

I've had this annoying rattle in my 81 930 that seems to get louder after driving for some time and when I go on rough roads. Somehow it's not as noticeable when I first start driving. It seems like it is either in the front right suspension, in front of the passenger floor board, or where the AC evaporator is. It's been like this for several years and I want to cure the problem because it's driving me crazy. Its definitely not some small loose thing. It seems like something big and clunky. Anyone else have similar issue?

My tip would be the torsion bars. If the bushings have dried up or the grease on the bars they could be knocking.

In addition to the above, when I bought my car I had a speaker for the alarm system that was loose and just sitting on the cover plate for the steering rack/fuel pump area. It could easily be something rattling around in that area.

Also, check the outer sleeve/bearing in the steering rack. You need to remove the accordion rubber boot to view. There is a star slip ring that holds the sleeve in and it is known to snap which will allow the sleeve to creep out of place. Don't forget to check the sway bar bushing as well.

I had the "rattle" during the process of upgrading the suspension. See my thread, page 3.

Jack the passenger wheel off the ground and take the wheel off. Grasp the lower part of the strut and try and move it left and right. If there is movement in there you would have a loose gland nut that needs to be tightened.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad bushing ontop of the strut, you can try using a impact gun to tighten..

My friend, Andy Chisholm, told me many years ago that when I heard a strange suspension noise from the front end, it was probably from the sway bar. Twice he was correct. R/Dave

Well, I checked everything underneath and all the visible joints seem tight. However, I noticed the camber brace in the trunk has a big gap which I don't know if it should be there or not. It is a Renline aftermarket brace. Should the top bolt be all the way down? I didn't jack up the car and try to move it, but I imagine if it was totally lose I wouldn't even be able to drive it. So my question is, is that gap normal?
