SSI and ADD a cat?!

I have an SC with headers and GT3 exhaust. Ample power, loud as hell and no heat. I live in Colorado and thus have similar smog rules as California, thus to be compliant I need to add a cat.

I'm thinking of swapping the Rarly8 headers for backdate style SSI heat exchangers, to get heat but keep performance. My question: can I add cat(s) to the SSIs? Is there room to cut up and add small cat(s)? If I would do it, would that impact performance?

As the car now is too loud I am also considering changing the muffler. Does that open up for alternatives if changing the SSI's is not an option?

Thanks!

You're going to need a stock exhaust system to pass emissions, with cat. And another vehicle to drive when it snows.... I would get a good used set and bolt them up for emissions, then change when you get home. If I lived in boulder, and wanted to use the car more than a couple of months, I would get some heat. Pretty chilly right now I bet. But, definitely a second car!

It's been done, I recall seeing a thread on it here some time ago. Basically a pair os small cats welded into the SSI stingers on their way to the 2-in muffler. Room is tight, so very small cats are in order.

Found it. Craig_D's Dual Cat SC Exhaust

Turns out it was done to meet Colorado tests, as well. Craig is local to you, you may want to contact him to check it out.

Well, I was about to chime in here, when I saw my post linked.

Hey JoLi, send me a PM and we can meet up so you can give a look and listen to my system.
