Turn Signal Switch / Blowing Fuse
 

My passenger turn signal is blowing a fuse. I don't believe I have a short between the fuse and the bulb. I used a short circuit finder to load the circuit and it is not indicating a short. However, during testing I noticed with the ignition off all four parking lights light when the stalk is in the right or left position. I believe the only the respective pair should light, which causes me to suspect my turn signal switch is bad.

Has anyone had similar symptoms that was resolved with a new turn signal switch? Thanks.

Not only turn switch: also light switch can be affected.

Begin verifying the two connectors under the dash: Pop up and spray, then test it.

You can try to fix the turn switch cleaning the contacts, not the other that generally cook togheter blades and insulators. Remove both and verify with a multimeter.

Thanks. I appreciate the comments and the step by step. I have seen some of the threads on the switch repair, though most of them seem to be addressing high/low beam issues. I will likely remove and clean, then retest, but will be ready to replace if needed.

I was not certain what you were referencing when you said "Begin verifying the two connectors under the dash: Pop up and spray, then test it." Can you clarify? Thanks again.

With bad contact of the pins you can find yourself in the dark while driving by night and other misadventures.

I use a knife to gently enlarge the cut.

(Where did you find your Ducatis? They were imported during the sixties or recently?)

Close to ten years, purchased my 911 in the summer of 2007. Both Ducati's were US bikes and have limited documentation supporting they were registered here in the early 70's. The Monza Jr was under a porch for a few decades and was pretty rusty. I struggle to find the time to work on it, maybe this winter :(. The Monza 250 was found in a machine shop, and was in much better condition - cosmetically and mechanically. I had the 250 out yesterday for a ride, so much fun. Plus, it's rolling art like so many Italian bikes and cars of that era.

The turn signals and parking lights are totally different circuits, though they do share the turn signal lever, they use separate switch contacts.

Which fuse is blowing?

The problem won't be fixed by cleaning anything and is unlikely to be fixed by switch replacement.

When did this start happening?

It's fuse #10. It just started a few weeks ago. No work had been done, so assume the insulation of one the wires between the panel the load, the relay and the switch. I find troubleshooting these more complex electrical issues to be a challenge to pinpoint. Any suggestions as to next steps?

PS - I do have one wire that's disconnected in the area of the #10 fuse, but it's been disconnected. I have studied the wiring diagram, but have not been able to confirm what it connects. It's at the bottom of the panel, which I believe is the load side of the panel.

So with fuse 10 removed does the right rear blinker still work, but flash faster? Only the front is fused.
And the hazards all flash except the right front?
On the bottom of fuse 10 there should be a blk/grn wire which goes to the right front blinker. That wire is probably shorted to ground and blowing the fuse.

I don't recall testing with the #10 removed, but with a blown fuse the right rear works flashing fast. I verify with the fuse out tonight. I did not test the hazards, will do so tonight.

The blk/grn wire was loose, but not touching anything and the blinker worked as designed. I suppose it is possible that it shorted to ground as I recently did pull the trunk carpet over the fuse box. Let me focus on that wire.

I will test all tonight. I do appreciate the input.
