Twin plug distributor cap question
 

I'm chasing a misfire issue with my car. I suspected the carbs, which I've removed and cleaned, but now I'm looking into the ignition. I have a jb racing twin distributor. I removed the cap today to take a peek and not sure I like what I see. There is a ring in the top where the router has constant contact. This looks to be copper (???) and green in spots. Can I clean this up with emery? Also, the "tines" for the upper and lower plugs look significantly different. One is copper looking and looks fine. The other ones look like there was some kind of coating on them that the router has worn through where it touches. Or, something has built up around where the router touches. It's very hard to tell. I'll attach a picture below to see what you think. Not sure if I should attempt to clean it up or what.

That looks like an aftermarket version of the Marelli Jaguar cap and those are not very good quality.

If you cannot locate a genuine Jag cap, I would flush the inside of the cap with contact cleaner to remove all those tiny bits of aluminum as these represent a conductive path, causing misfires.

It's a JB Racing cap.

They do not make their own caps; I've bought quite a few of these over the years. :)

There are several makers of Jag caps and the Italian one (cheapest) cause these issues. I use NOS Jag Marelli caps even though they are far more expensive since I cannot afford any trouble.

I am reviving this thread as I am having issues with my JB Racing-supplied, Italian-made distributor cap. The center button disintegrated.

Does anyone know which NOS Jag cap is the proper unit to use for a replacement?

So far, I have found that "new stock" Jag LU-437 distributor caps are made by these companies:

Standard Motor Products (SMP)
Prenco
Beck/Arnley
WD Express

Which is the best and which is the worst?

JB Racing and Pelican Parts sell replacement caps for the JB Racing Distributors.

There are indeed a variety of companies that sell the Jaguar caps, but they are very likely all made in the same place in Italy.

Marelli no longer make them, and NOS Marelli parts are hard to find.
