Shipping p-car seats?

Has anyone done this before and have any do's or dont's to offer up? I still need to find a box for them. These are from an 84 Carrera, do they come apart as in back from bottom to make shipping easier?

Thanks for any help.

I open them all the way flat, put them in a sort of 'missionary' position, tape them together, then wrap a bicycle box around them.

Try Greyhound. They will cost a fortune to ship by motorfreight.

Fed Ex ground is really not to bad as long as I can stay out of the oversized category...they are going from VA to OH.

I took the back and seat bottoms apart to make the packaging easy and to fit within UPS size guidelines. About a 10 minute job. When I did this it cost less than $50 to ship two seats UPS from DFW to CHI.

I used the seat boxes I received my SPD's in. The box was roughly the size of the seat bottom with the back of the seat forward for the height. Get a box to fit this size and it'll cost around 60-80 anywhere in the US for both UPS ground...

I just bought a pair of seats and the the shipper used the ups store. They used boxes that I believe are for chairs. The seat back was just leaned forward a bit and all wrapped in bubble wrap. The seats came in perfect.

Jeff:
I found a cardboard box that held a residential 40-50 gallon water heater worked well (ck any plumbing shop or residetial construction site). Both seats (these were 914 seats that do not hinge @ seat back so your fitment should be easier) will fit with more space than needed, and FedX ground from San Antonio to Reno one way was less than $28.00. Just cut down the excess hight of the box to size. This packing worked well enough that the same box was used for the return after repair.
Good riding, Ron Shade
