1968 Pastel Blue 911S

This is a total shot in the dark, but what are the odds of being able to track down a Pastel Blue 1968 911S? It was my fathers, and it's what started the whole love affair for me.

Thoughts on how to begin? This is the only picture I have to go on...

I am in the same boat at the moment as you and am not sure, but you may be able to take the plate and if you have a police officer friend it could maybe be found that way (if still in Michigan)? I am not sure though without a vin, or at least numbering of any kind.

I gave my old vin to an officer friend in Cali and he is running a search to see if my old targa is still in that state.

I thought 68 was the year that the S's were actually L's?

Couple of thoughts.

Where was it serviced? If they are still around they may have old records with a VIN.

When was it purchased and sold?

Post a note on Early911registry.com in the lost and found section with as many detail as you can.

Not pastel blue, but it is a beautiful 1968 S.

I looked in my database, and that is a rare color. I only found one 1968 and it was a 911 (normal) for the USA. If it was a 911S, then it was probably imported from Europe as it did not meet NA standards that year; this would make it very rare in the USA.

Gorgeous car. Love that color.

Sounds like my story. I began my search last year for dad's '70 T coupe that he bought new, and sold after my brother and I came along. He didn't keep any records. All I have is a pic of the license plate number. I wrote an article for my regions' PCA newsletter about my search. You can read it here
I still have a couple leads to follow up on, including getting in touch with the salesman who sold the car to dad. He's still around. If you pay to join the Early S Registry (like $40 or so) you get the magazine (nice) and the actual registry, where you can look up cars by year, and perhaps find one that matches your dad's. I found one listed exactly like dad's, just 30 minutes from me! That was pretty thrilling for about a day, until I called the owner and found out it wasn't dad's car. If you have a VIN, that could really help track it down. Follow 93nav's advice. Find the shop that worked on it. The mechanic who worked on my dad's car (Tom Bruch, now in his 80's) gave all his invoices to a couple local shops who still work on the cars, so there's a chance your numbers are out there somewhere.

Funny story. I also recently bought a 914 so I could become a full fledged PCA member and connect with as many locals as possible in hopes of finding the car. At this point it's sort of a hobby in itself. I doubt I'll ever find it, but its sure been a blast trying.

The folks also had bugs and busses. Wish they'd kept them!

If not too much trouble... can you please give me an indication of how uncommon pastel blue is for any longhood?

I have a 1971T in Pastel Blue that I bought from the original owner's family. I read someplace that there were 4 T's made in that color in 1971... I think willhoit has one, there is one that has been restored by 9M... a guy on RL and the early registry has one.. and mine... Very strange if they indeed only made 4 of them and "we" know where all of them are....

I'm sure they made more from 68-73... keen to know what your database says!

Thanks in advance. It is a lovely color

A quick check on the 911e.org page and there appear to be six E's in this lovely color!
