Quick release deck lid

My race car has a fiberglass deck lid with hinges and pins - no latch.

Now I would like to remove the hinges and replace them with pins.

However, *not* through the deck lid type pins that you see at the rear.

I was wondering about fabricating pins/mounts that would engage in holes in the opening at the top edge close to the rear window.

So, to remove: release rear pins and lift deck lid off.

To install: engage pins at the front, lower decklid over rear pins and install clips.

Has anyone else done this???

Can you post pics?

What is the hidden structure like along the top edge of the opening??

911R hinges. Pull retainer clip, slide out pin. Lift off decklid.

or just flip over onto the rear window glass...

Any number of people are making these 911R hinges. This particular one happens to be the real deal.

For years I've been wanting to make a targa top style attachment. Top of lid pins would fit horizontally into receivers welded in under the rear deck. Then vertical pins fit into holes in the crossmember. RS rubber latches would hold it down. I think it would save a little weight and also allow easy removal of the decklid.

Another "someday" project.

That would work but I have to say they are kinda ugly.

Exactly!

I am fitting a rear wing so the deck lid can no longer hinge open.

Someday will happen for me soon

Porsche = Form follows Function.
Nothing about winning beauty contests.
What they lack in style-points is easily made up by the Cool Factor.

The ugly hinges are original.

The reproduction ones are much nicer.

It's the old story. Do you restore your car to the way it was actually made or do you restore it to the way you wish they had made it?
