There are two on my '70 911T. I'm guessing one is in the heat exchangers because everytime I turn on the heat I step out of the car smelling like exhaust. The second leak is from a weld on the muffler, which makes my car tick at idle like a John Deer tractor.
Rather than fix or replace the factory muffler, I'd rather go with an aftermarket one. Bursch and Ansa have been recommended to me for their sound, which is all I'm concerned about since performance isn't a major issue on my 2.2T engine. This is simply a fun car to drive. SSI was recommended by three of you members as for the heat exchanger, but here is where I get confused. I thought I'd wait out this winter season on the heat exchangers since it's warming up outside, and just get the muffler. But I do plan on getting the SSI's later. Can I do this? Or do I need to install both at the same time? Please be patient with me...this car was lent to me through the family for me to learn on and enjoy, and so far it has been a blast! I recently finished rebuilding the carbs, rebuilt the pedal cluster, stripped the interior to fix all rust spots and refitted carpets, and many more little tasks that have kept me busy and learning with this car all in the 6 months that I have owned it. As for this exhaust topic, I just lack the knowledge, so an explanation would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Nick '70 911T |

The SSIs are aftermarket stainless steel copies of the 73 and earlier heat exchangers....so the new dual in muffler should fit your HEs and the SSIs when you get around to buying the SSIs.

And you don't think I'd damage the new dual in muffler by having to fit it twice - to two different HE's?
