Will the real SSI's please stand up?

So, is Motor Scheister now manufacturing knock offs of Stainless Systems Inc's (SSI's) heat exchangers? Funny, they still call them SSI's, but for Stainless Steel Induction. What gives? If these are the real deal, the price is right.....

Also, doesn't induction typically refer to intake :)

I wonder if John Daniels knows about this. Seems like a pretty clear case of trademark infringement.

Never thought I would be defending these guys, but I don't see that it says they are making them, and they don't mention it on their web page. If I missed it, point it out to me.

They may be real SSI's, and the guy who wrote the ad copy is too lazy to double check what SSI stands for.

They look to be real SSI units that he`s distributing. If they are custom made then theres the answer for the 3.6 motor swaps in earlier cars. He could make them with 1 3/4" primaries. Now that would be a deal for $800.00 !

pjv911 01-06-2003 04:07 PM

Whats with the private bidding ?

mike mueller 01-06-2003 04:11 PM

I'm thinking old Roy at MM does not know what the I stands for even tho it's right on the box in big blue letters :)
(or black letters, I have not seen a box in a few weeks....)

speeder 01-06-2003 04:30 PM

Those are just regular old SSIs, which are great pieces of course, and $840 incl. shipping is a good price, but not hard to match. Our host sells these for $850, if not mistaken. As far as "custom fit" goes, they make slightly different versions for various applications, nothing new there. Not the most well informed ad, and why give these clowns any business?

don911 01-06-2003 04:38 PM

I agree with Speeder. Even if these are the real deal, the price isn't great. If you're in the market for SSI's, spend the extra $50 bucks and get them from PP.

Joe Bob 01-06-2003 04:44 PM

Just checked the site....that's just about retail.....no big deal, SSI will sell to any shop and that;s about normal suggested price.

Vipergrün 01-06-2003 05:35 PM

Hey folks, I guess I should not have implied that MM was actually fabricating these, however, in comparing pictures to the http://www.stainlesssystemsinc.com/ web site, the quality does not look as good. Then again, the pic in the auction is pretty cr*ppy. If MM *is* a re-seller, they owe it to the manufacturer to have the correct information, and may even be contractually obligated to.

As far as price, I was looking at the starting bid and there were no bidders at that time. Yes, I am a dedicated Pelicanite, so NO chance of me buying ANYTHING from MM :)

slammed1000 01-06-2003 06:39 PM

m/m is just selling ssi heatexchangers like everyone else. i am not defending them but ssi is a business where more than 1 distributor can purchase from. it would be a good deal to purchase a set on ebay if you could get them for around 750-775. i am sure tom or wayne would match his prices like i found out. if you guys have been reading excellence you would have seen ssi's add in there looking for business. they have there own webpage now and more than likely are trying to grow and make money like everyone else.

Reg 01-06-2003 07:04 PM

I'm sure any business will be happy to sell to a reseller that sells their product in even if its not in ideal circumstances, especially in times like now.

Chuck Moreland 01-06-2003 09:17 PM

Check the SSI ad in the feb Excellence. They made a big deal about "competitors" claiming SSI was a generic label, and that they are the one true SSI.

I don't if the MM items are from SSI or not, but SSI is upset about someone using their acronym.

I bought a set from a guy off the parts board, New in the box for $745 0n my door step. So a killer deal it's not

pjv911 01-07-2003 02:59 PM

Roy at motor miester emailed me back when I asked if those are there`s or real SSI`s . He said they are regular old SSI`s . I asked him if they are custom will they be making them with 1 3/4" primaries. He said he was just speaking to John and ....... well.. I will just paste the message below.

"These are the FACTORY SSI units, John is already going to make us up some of
the larger ID for 3.6, I can call him today and see when they should be done,
do you have a phone number?

If there is anything else you are looking for or
if you have any technical information you may have questions on please just
ask! "

Thank you again Roy at Motor Meister Inc.

I agree with the thought of buying them from Wayne. After all, he gives us this board. What has MM given us?

pjv911 01-07-2003 03:28 PM

I still need a 3.6 (still $aving ) then if available would by them here.

I talked to Brad about this at their swap meet back in the spring. He said people were calling one of the Wayne's competitors, and ordering SSI's by name. When the box showed up they were Dansk. They would get irate calls about fit problems, for HE's they didn't make. He said if it doesn't come in a big white box that says SSI on it, it ain't an SSI.

I won't mention the reseller by name, in respect for Wayne, but they have a really pretty catalog and high prices, even with their frequent 20% off sales.;)

Roy is a good customer of ours. I'm sure his "web guy" didnt know what SSI stood for (besides quality...oohh that was good) I'll call him tomorrow if John hasnt already caught wind of this. I'm kinda scared that he said anything about a 1 3/4 exhaust from us. We arent even close to being done with R+D. Its a completely new system and total new design from everybody else.

Per Bruce Anderson: "The SSI's work great up until your engine starts making 290hp and above" 1 1/2 for at least another year.

Now I know alot of you would like to *think* that you have 300hp... LOL

I dont much visit the PP board anymore.. but I highly suggest you just buy them from the PP.
