Headlight bucket question
 

Hi;
I've been visiting here since Oct. when I bought a '67 S. At first I was kind of disappointed to find that you Porsche people aren't doing a damn thing to live up to your reputation as snobby penis heads. I tried this board fully expecting to be disgusted by a lot of posing and attitudenising, but really, this is a joy to visit. Thanks for all the info I've pulled off here thus far.
Now I have a question: Is it possible to get a headlight bucket out of a fender w/out destroying something? So far I've whacked it with a rubber mallet, but that didn't do a thing.
These are fenders I picked up as spares. They're from a '66. I want to take the bucket out so I can clean off the undercoating and crap, then do the underside with POR15.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but I really don't see what you find so offensive about my post. If I say someone has a bad reputation, but they're not doing anything to live up to it, I'm saying they don't deserve the reputation. It's like a left-handed compliment.

The language, while it might push the envelope a bit, I don't feel is worse than I've seen in other posts.

I don't know if the bucket is welded in or not, though. Hopefully, someone here will help.

Chas, I think John was pulling your leg. One reason why using a smiley is important!:D As to you question, I believe the headlight bucket is spot welded to the fender. Maybe this bump back up to the top will get some more help to you. Are you referring to part number 16 in this diagram?

#16 is it all right.
I don't see any welds anywhere but they sure don't just pop out. That's why I wondered if there was some trick to it. Guess not....

Anyway, I'm getting pretty creative about reaching in around the thing and scraping.

Yes you can get the bucket out, you should clean out the seam that is between the bucket and the fender, you will find a few welds. Then take a cut-off wheel and cut through the welds...

The get behind the bucket with a dead-blow hammer. and give a few whacks.

Do more exploratory grinding if that doesnt work. Then try again

Come to find out, there's about ten spot welds in each bucket. I'm afraid if I cut them out I won't have much left to work with. These things are starting to look like prime candidates for bead blasting....
