2.7 cis to carbs?

Hey guys, couldn't find the answer I was looking for on the search, so I figured I should ask.

I'm looking at a 2.7 cis engine. Looks well cared for, pop of valve, tensioners, 11 blade fan, turbo valve covers, etc. Working on finding out about the head studs and maybe a leak down test.

Engine was running when pulled from car, but was coughing and making black smoke under hard acceleration. Been sitting for a few years now.

Is it worth trying to fix the cis? Or, I have an excellent pair of zenith carbs I could use and pull off the cis. This is all depending on the condition of the engine though.

Any idea of value of the engine?

thanks,

Well, IMO, if it has 100k the cast pistion are probably worn.. not that you couldn't still clock some miles.. a correct full rebuild is big bucks.. forged RS pistond and a E, solex, or S-cam w/carbs and SSI is a fun engine.. CIS can be big bucks to repair the fuel dist.. gas turns to a varnish after a while.. so clogged fuel dist is a considerstion.. if your thinking at a partial rebuild? might be better w/used running 3.0 or 3.2.. I never tried flushing a fuel dist
