decklid question...longhood to shorthood transition

When did Porsche stop manufacturing license plate slots in the bottom of the decklids?
Did it happen when they went to the G cars with impact bumpers in 1974? Or did they still use the decklids with slots after 73? My 74 lid has the raised area on both sides of the spine, but no slots. Other than the slots, were the 74-77 lids the same? Could I take a 74-77 lid and slot it to make it compatible with a 69-73 lid with license plate lights?

decklids...

Nobody?

Hey, we have figured out how to turn shorthood fenders into longhood fenders, and LWB adjustable springplates into SWB adjustable springplates...are these next?

I backdated my car last winter. The rear deck lid is a steel framed ducktail from Gary Stratton. It didn't have the cut outs for the plate lights, so I cut them out with a small dremel cutting wheel. So, it can be done. There is no difference in size for 69-89 deck lids. I think the grill area might be slightly different, not sure.
In 74 Porsche stopped with license plate slots because they went with impact bumpers.

decklid

Thank you.
I just checked a rusty decklid on my 70 project and it looked to be the same as my 74, minus the light cutouts. I was worried that the spline would be different? Looks to be the same? And it would make sense that when the DOT regs came into being (1973-74) that Porsche would try to "utilize what they had" , instead of reinventing the wheel. Yes...no?

I would say yes. All the stamping looks to be the same. Just no cut outs.

One more thing...

The 74-77 decklids don't have the holes for the PORSCHE script on the lower edge.
Does anyone have a "jig" or stencil for creating those holes? In a perfect world a thin piece of pre-drilled steel you could lay on the lid, position, clamp and drill would be great.
Has anyone done this? Can I borrow your jig?
