2.8 rsr replica build
Just bought a 74 911 targa. car was originally lime green and am considering retuning it to original color.
Been told that thse are 930 steel wheel arches. firstly would someone be able to confirm this for me from these pictures. Can you get the light boxes to fit these arches and also do the standard 2.8 rsr bumpers fit these arches ![]() ![]() ![]() |

LIme green is nice, those do look like 930 flares, no RSR bumper will bolt on without needing some reshaping to meet the 930 fender flares and the light boxes can be re-worked to fit those fenders if you have a metal guy with talent. None of it is a bolt-on proposition, so it's all about the skill of the guy you hire and how much money you are willing to throw at the project.
Not sure why you'd want to base an RSR replica on a targa, but that's just me. JR |

+1 for the targa not being the right car for that plan. Throw a valance, spoiler and fogs on the front, add some Fuchs and drive the $&@! out of it. Then go singerish like their targa they did. I think it has turbo flares.

You can put IROC RS bumpers on it easier, I just did the same until I can get to backdating. I'm working on paint this winter, so bumpers will match

I have the front valance. I think the overiders and the whaletail make it look really clunky.
I have a good metal guy who could sort the light box. I also have a friend who makes fiberglass guards and flares for a living so have the contacts. are you saying whatever I buy regarding the front and rear bumpers will need modification? |

I dunno, but I don't think I'd try for an RSR replica with a Targa...
You obviously want to make a change and if the factory original colour was Lime Green, that's a fantastic direction to explore. Personally, I think I might be inclined to go back to the factory colour, change the headlight rings and trim to chrome or bright anodized, get the Targa roll hoop to stainless or brushed finish, swap the flag mirrors to the chrome version, fit a valence from an SC or earlier and go with no fogs, and roll with some Fuchs. I have a feeling that having later G bodied cars to look like early ones will be popular soon, too.

In my opinion, I think the targa would look really neat, but with a duck (or no) tail. The iroc, or smaller 76 turbo tails, throw the proportions off when it comes to a targa

I will be removing the whaletail and fitting a ducktail. So if i want he rsr bumpers i will have to get them extended. Is that correct

The 2.8 RSR fenders had a different profile than the turbo fenders when viewed from either the side of the front or back. Frankly, they were not very attractive. Most likely, you'll have to modify whatever bumper you install where is meets the fender flares, to get a decent looking transition between the two. This will involve cutting and re-glassing parts of the fenders. Some will fit better than the others. Maybe Dave has some that fit better than most. TRE has done a lot of this sort of work and they may have access to molds that were created to make parts for this scenario, since turbo flares are a lot more common than true 2.8 RSR flares.
One more opinion, while I'm at it... I think that the 3.0 RS bodywork, as shown above in the post by Dave, is more attractive anyway than the 2.8 RSR bodywork. It's also a hell of a lot easier and less expensive to fit to your car. JR Last edited by javadog; 11-06-2016 at 02:36 AM.. |
