How to remove shroud behind fresh air blower?

Hey Guys,

I'm trying to gain access to the intermittent wiper relay on my '87 Carrera. Following Bentley's suggestion, I removed the fresh air blower, but the large black plastic shroud behind the blower is still blocking access to the relay. I don't see anything in the Bentley manual that explains how to remove the shroud. Can someone help? Thanks!

Sorry for the dark image - I didn't realize how bad it was until I posted!

you already removed the two screws at the top it appears, it kind of wiggles out after you pull it out of the drain hose on the bottom left of that picture.

Yeah the drain hose is the key.

I think you pull it gently from the bottom - the bottom rotates forward and up as it comes out. Going in is even more fun

did you try to pop a gauge out and access it through the hole?

I'm changing the relay, not the switch :-)

I think it's doable through the clock hole. However, now that the blower is coming out, there are some things that you could do while in there.
1. Reverse the parking of the windshield wipers to passenger side
2. Make sure your cigarette lighter is working, also bulbs in your fog light and rear defrost switches.
3. Lube your heater control cables and pivots.
4. Lube your blower motor shaft Fresh Air Blower Squeal Fix
Maybe a few other things.
Good luck,
Dave

I am struggling with a wiper switch problem, so am bumping this thread. I thought there were two relays - First one you access by removing a gauge, and pulling out, or by reaching in through luggage compartment. The second one is up by front latch / battery. Is there a third behind the ac/ heat tubes?
