wipers go on randomly when switch in off position

1976 912e- do I need to replace switch ,or is there another thing I can do?

Does your E have intermittent wipers? The switch is on the dash between the clock and the speedometer. If it's on, the wipers will come on even if the stalk is in the off position.

LOL

my wipers will swipe on occasion for no reason I can find. have intermittent switch and keep in off position. years ago I replaced the steering column wiper switch and that eliminated the issue for a while. but it came back.

I was able to fix the issue of my headlight/turn signal always having high beams based on info from a thread, but looked at the wiper unit and cannot see/find anything to clean/adjust.

did some searching threads but never found a solution for my wipers.

if I turn on the intermittent or the wipers, they work normally, but when off will occasionally make a swipe or two.

so anyone else have this issue and found a fix other than replacing the steering column control again?

Bob,

When you turn the wipers off, there is a set of contacts in the stalk that "make" which applies power to the wiper motor parking contacts. The motor runs until the wipers go to the park position and the motor contacts "open". It could be that those contacts in the motor drive housing need to be cleaned or adjusted (tweeked). Just a thought.

above.
mine do the same thing, I just have not been in there to fix it yet.
I reach under the dash and pull the plug from the wiper switch.
you just have to time it so the wipers park correctly.
I don't drive it in the rain so I have not missed the wipers.

I finally pulled my headlight switch and bent the contact so the high beams were not on all the time. working properly now. :D

then moved to the wipers. when looking at the switch, I could see how there is a contact to let the wipers return to the park position. had not thought about how they stop when reaching the park position.

years ago had the same issue develop and replaced the steering wheel stalk. worked for quite a while but now the gremlin is back. was about to consider getting another stalk unit but now want to check your idea.

do you know where "contacts in the motor drive housing" are located.

I tend to just pull the fuse, I do not drive it in the rain and usually will not head out if I think there is a serious chance of rain.

but would like to get this gremlin fixed.
