Charleston SQR connection challenge...
 

For the non-electrically challenged of you out there (unlike me)...

My '87 Carrera had an aftermarket JVC audio system installed by the PO. I always hated it; it was SO un-period correct. So, I acquired a Charleston SQR 26 (which was offered in the car originally) from someone here on Pelican, and have been waiting to put it; finally went at it last weekend.

I have correct connectors for the speakers and radio (though the radio connector was from a 944, so I can't use it as a guide) to mate to the radio and a wiring diagram, but I have run into an issue: the connection at the radio has a missing terminal (though space is there). See the photo below:

When I look at the wiring diagram from the Bently, it shows that there should be a white wire that is jumping over from the 4th terminal. See here:

Can any of you with a ~'87 Charleston SQR26 post a photo of the back of your unit? Is there supposed to be a terminal in position 3 in the radio? Is there an easy work-around?

I don't have exactly that radio, but I am confident no connection is required. typically the extra connectors are the +12 out to drive the amp to turn on, another one to tell the power antenna or antenna booster to go up/on, and sometimes there is a +DCV (variable) that tells the radio how bright or dim you want the radio display based on the voltage that drives the dashboard lighting.

otherwise, the radio needs
ground (brown)
+12 volt (red) constant to drive the memory circuit of the radio-direct from the battery
+12v (green) switched to turn the radio on/off when the key is turned on/off.

Thanks a lot for the instruction. I will give it a go, then, with what I have (just would like to find the antenna amplifier wire if i can...)

If anyone else can confirm about the rear connector and "terminal # 3", it would good to know what should be there, though (OCD, you know).
