Clutch Release Arm

Is there any advantage to having the later style clutch release arm? I have a Magnesium cased 915 with the 8:31 R and P. It is going in a 77 with a 3.6.

Thanks for any help.

What clutch, actually pressure plate, are you using?

Over the years Porsche increased the power, or clamping force, or their PP. At some point the omega setup was used to make pushing the clutch easier.

A fried of mine put a power clutch in his '71 and complained that the clutch pedal was too stiff. It worked, but he was not happy.

Hopefully others with 3,6s will chime in.

Thanks for the reply.

I have an aluminum PP. It will be a Sachs clutch.

I am not so worried about the applied effort from me, as I am the durability of the part.

do you mean later as in the needle bearing version of the release arm from 1978 onwards vs 1977 only non needle bearing version which uses a very slightly different omega spring?

or do you mean a 78 to 87 clutch arm with helper spring set up vs the 1972 to 1976 915 set up?

all i can say is i find my new sach clutch in my 73 quite heavy and i am going to change over to the 78 to 87 clucth/arm helper spring set up when the parts come up on ebay cheap enough.

Can an omega spring setup be installed on an earlier 915? I have one in my conversion 914-6 with a transmission from a 1975 911, and the clutch effort is quite high. I worry about tearing up the clutch tube inside the center tunnel, so an omega spring would be helpful if it could be fitted.

Does this mean that the only advantage is the reduced effort needed to apply the clutch pedal? What is involved in changing over to the later 78-86 clutch release lever with helper spring? Thanks.
