Can CASIS light be disabled?
My driving habits dictates that that cheesy little "shift for better fuel economy" light/arrow in the tach is always lit. Has anyone found any easy way of disableling it? It's just a minor annoyance at night, but if I could turn it off I would.
Thanks!! David

David,
Here's one way to do it: On the six spade connector on the bottom, center of the back of the tach, the CASIS/upshift light is controlled by the black wire/spade that connects to the upper left corner (Terminal 1) of the connector. Disconnect, tape off and you're done. Good luck, Tim |

It is annoying in it's "shift now for best fuel economy" mode, but Porsche being Porsche
also programed it to work as a " shift now you've hit redline" light under flat out acceleration. The secret is to drive flat out all the time, and it will never come on except to tell you " shift now stupid you're about to grenade the engine".

I disabled it on mine. It only comes on as a "redline" warning now. That little red light stays on a lot when I'm on the track.
(Motor is suitably modified to allow this, don't try this at home, not recommend if you are nursing, etc.)-Chris |

Hmmmm I guess I am a purist...I like the CAIS light. Very useful when shifting at full disco...who better to tell me the optimal shift points of the engine....than the engine?
Can't just ignore it? I also still have my buzzer installed but I only have 31k on the car and it is an 84. -Jeff nolift911@hotmail.com |

F1 drivers use a whole bank of 'em, so it can't be all bad.
It's useful at the track. The rest of the time it's a minor annoyance. My old Escort had the same "feature"...when I got the car when I was 19, I figured the light would burn out eventually since it came on all the time. I think I replaced every single bulb on that car with the exception of that one. It was still working the day the cops towed it away. :\

This has been on my punch list for some time - but the way I was going to do this was at the DME box under the seat. Wow - five minutes, one small piece of shrink tubing and that *(^% light is off! I tried to get it to go on at redline, but I keep chickening out at 6250...
This board rocks. Thanks!

You could also just ignore it. After a while I didn't even notice it anymore.

Yes, I ignored it pretty well, but I also found my eyes momentarily distracted by a light on the panel just as I'm winding up through 3 grand. I think that's bad. I have enough problems with the whole shifting, steering, thinking, chewing gum thing that lights going off for no reason must be stopped.
The few times I drive at night it's really annoying. And in five minutes, I could reverse it. For me, this is an immediate (and reversable) improvement in my cockpit environment. Now if I could just do something about the monkey behind the wheel...
