Swapping 2.7 CIS for 2.4T MFI in 72T Targa

Likely pulling the original 2.4T MFI motor out this winter for at least a reseal, as it marks its territory with alarming regularity. I may upgrade the 2.4T to 2.4S or 2.7RS specs depending on a few other things affecting my potential budget. Regardless, this could be a yr plus project so I'm considering my options to keep the car on the road while the 2.4 is in surgery. I have a rebuilt 75 2.7 CIS engine that I'm considering putting in. What needs to be swapped/modded/upgraded etc to accommodate such a retrofit? Fuel Pump, Ignition???

I suppose another option would be to just upgrade the 2.7 motor to RS specs since its got the right case already. But no MFI ports in heads????

Would love to get some feedback from fellow Pelicans

Hi, why is the 2.4 case the right case for a 2.7RS spec motor if you don't mind me asking.

It's my understanding that the 2.7 case has the appropriate spigots for the RS P's and C's, so no need to do any mods to the case vs the 72 2.4 case.

Gotchya.

Running the CIS engine means different fuel pump, accumulator and plumbing. Tank was different as well with the swirl pot but you'd probably get by with mfi tank. The big deal to me would be increasing fuel pressure dramatically on old fuel lines. Up to 100psi with CIS under certain conditions, mfi runs 12-14psi from tank to mechanical pump.
