So after waiting awhile for Tony to send me a test FD, I decided to just buy a used one from a well known parts flipper here on Pelican. Opened the package today and the plunger is stuck inside. I thought ok, I can probably get it out. But after looking at it for another minute or two I noticed someone had it apart before and put it together wrong. So this one is useless. Why can't this be easy? haha
I would just have mine rebuilt but a few have mentioned its not repairable. I contacted the member I bought it from and I'm hoping he has another one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1498409755.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1498409755.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1498409755.JPG |
Miscommunication........

Chris, I have been waiting for your email and decision to take the offer. However, we lost track and this fell between the cracks. If you are still interested email me and we will discuss the detail. Tony |
I sent you an email. Never heard back from you. What offer?

I did some tests on my car to see what the max vacuum was and what idle vacuum was then verified the DV opened between the to, preferably closer to the max, depending on how long you want the idle to "hang". I eventually removed that crap, same on the 930, gone. |
FD loaner.........
Chris,
I sent you the detail of the arrangement for the FD loaner. I would need a refundable deposit via PayPal and you pay for the shipping costs. After you returned the FD in same good working condition, you will get the refundable deposit minus the shipping cost I spent. I've lend parts and tools to hundreds of PP members as far as Australia and Germany. There was one particular case that the engine yoke might not be returned in 60 days. At that time, we were not sure how long a PayPal refund would be good. So, a second refundable deposit of $300 was sent to me. A total of $600 deposited for an engine yoke (?). The first deposit was refunded and subsequently the second deposit was also refunded when the yoke arrived at my house. The guy's name is Drew Martin (D R M), an American leaving in Germany. If you could find someone offering this kind of help, I would not be offended if you go in that direction. The only time I lost a loaner item was when I did not have a deposit. The guy sold his car using my WUR and never responded to my emails. Lesson learned. It is not that I don't trust you, but I have several items out to people I don't know. With the deposit more than the value of the item, I have no problem getting the items back on time. Nor worry about them any more. They (loaners) are like homing pigeons. They find their way back home because of the deposits. Tony |
Good way to do it Tonyhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat.gif

Any closure on this yet?

Update.......

I had to rebuild a second FD for Chris and mailed it yesterday. The first FD had one port leaking and would not be a good unit to test. The second FD has been pressure tested for a couple of days and passed the test. He might not be able to attend to this due to his travel commitment. And I am also very eager to find out and learn the answer to his problem because I doubt if the FD is responsible for the erratic oscillation of the sensor plate. Or you could be right about the FD. Tony |
As Tony has already mentioned, I am awaiting a fd from him. As soon as it arrives and I am home I will swap it out and see what happens. I had bought a used one but as you see in the photos above it arrived unusable. That seller has found a replacement but who knows what condition it will be in. I will test with the unit Tony provides me when it arrives.

I received Tony's FD and one thing I noticed is mine has some kind of metal piece in the FD where the WUR fuel line connects. Tony's does not and neither does another one I looked at. The photo is kind of blurry but you can see it and in the other you can clearly see it is not there.
Still working out some bugs as I now have Tony's FD installed but I am not getting fuel to the injectors while I am cranking the engine. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1500759734.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1500759734.jpg |
Turn the key on and raise the sensor plate until the injectors spray.

I am wondering if all the messing around I did before with the fuel mixture that its now way off again with this FD.
|
Yup, might have to crank the mixture screw richer or leaner. The injector should begin spraying just as you raise the sensor plate. That's a starting point.
|
So...the exciting conclusion is Mr. John Walker was correct. After adjusting the fuel mixture using Tony's FD I no longer experienced the oscillating sensor plate. Over all it ran quite well, maybe a little more tweaking on the mixture to make it perfect but definitely no longer have that problem.
Thank you all for the help. edit: I am wondering if that piece of metal I am seeing in the port for the WUR is what is causing the problem??? The other two FDs I have don't have that showing in the port. Anyways, I have a used one I picked up from another Pelican, I just hope it is in good working order. |
Cool - I hope you get it sorted and get some good drive time in!

msd
my 2.7 1975 was idling poorly and surging at 2800 rpm,, i found that the msd was affecting the resistor in my rotor. I replaced it with a non resistive rotor and the problem went away, solid idle and no surging.
i am going back to the cdi as i think that the msd will ruin the distributor cap and porsche wires with resistors. |
Picture of your FD.......
Chris,
Could you post a good picture of your FD showing the controversial part? Thanks. Tony |

Hopefully you can see it better in this photo.
