Loud CDI whine
Car is an '82 SC. This morning on my way in to work, I noticed that I could hear the CDI while going down the road with the radio on. I've never noticed this before and shut off the radio and confirmed that it definitely was the super high-pitched CDI tone.
My question is, do the CDI units make more noise when they're on their way out? Or, was my hearing just especially keen this morning? Thanks in advance! Brian Petry Springboro, OH |

Some are louder than others but that's nothing to be too concerned about. It's the core of the internal transformer that is loser on some than others and maybe the cover seals not as tight, too.
If the box IS BAD, the pitch changes to a higher note but there will be absolutely no spark. Obviously not your issue.

Thanks guys, it may very well be tinnitus! Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a progression to failure.
Thanks again! |
