Wayne, I would guess you have matured to the point where you should make these sort of decisions on your own.
Great trip, be safe and have a fun holiday |
I was wondering what ever happened to the stolen 914. Sorry to hear the car wasn't recovered but glad the perp is in jail. Also glad to hear insurance paid up. I always wondered how long they could keep you in limbo if there was a chance the car could be recovered.
Really glad you found a new 914. Have fun, congrats and Happy Thanksgiving! |

Almost home, 3 more miles and time for some snow! Wayne |
Home sweet home!
Took about ten tries to get it up the snowy driveway! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1479950835.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1479950869.jpg |
Awesomesauce!

This thing is louder than it looks. We'll have to get the decibel meter out to see if it's louder than the 935. It will be a close contest! Had to wear "super" earplugs today (normal ones wouldn't have sufficed).

Glad you made it...That thing sounds wicked! Tim

Sounds fantastic - although 287 miles of that might be a bit much. |

Please make sure you double and triple check for a possible VIN swap, clipping or stitching. I wish i had seen this earlier ... :( |
^^^ Well, SirAndy, there's the Dickhead Post of the year. Info better transmitted via PM. Hoping good sense prevails and you delete it ASAP.

Congrats Wayne!! Road trips are more fun the less practical the car, I drove a PCA Club Race '88 Targa back home 250 miles through torrential rain on old slicks and ancient wipers, with headers and megaphones, and zero interior. Followed a friend at about 40 MPH with the hazards on, good times.....

It's a clean car, with a clean title, owned by Tom from 1998. There's some odd stuff circulating on the Internet in the past, but there are probably very few people who know Tom Woodford as well as I do, as he is the guy I worked with for hundreds of hours on writing the Porsche 911 Engine Rebuild book. The cars started out as a California 1970 Porsche 914 - a pretty simple and basic car, and has been heavily modified from there. With so many four-cylinder 914s around, there is no need to mess with any VINs whatsoever - it just doesn't make any sense.
This car, of course, is highly modified from new, and currently has a 2.8L twin-plug RSR engine in it - built upon a 1965 aluminum block Porsche 911 engine. Tom offered me the car many years ago, but I already had a 914, and wasn't interested in having two of them. Having my 914-6 conversion stolen last year (I tracked the guy down and he's now in jail, but we still can't find the car), this is now a replacement. Pretty much a dollar-for-dollar exchange with the insurance money, and although my 914-6 conversion was my very first car and my first Porsche, this one is a much better and much more sorted out car. As with any car I buy, there are some improvements and changes I will be making in the very near future, but they are relatively minor. The back window has been removed, and that makes for some interesting aerodynamics which causes exhaust to enter the passenger compartment. We'll be putting the back window back in and probably turning the engine lid into the "GT Style" lid with a full grille across the back. I might put some dynamat in too, if I ever want my wife to ride with me in it - it is really almost unbearably loud. -Wayne |
Found this photo from a thread about the New Year's drive from 2005:

More power to ya Wayne! Thanks to the facilities featured in your well detailed books and your Parts store, I am knee deep in a 3.0 rebuild and a 914-6GT recreation............. I am curious. Did you have any form of theft protection for the 914 stolen?
My mechanic Guru helping (can you say "leading") me in the rebuild of my SC motor is in HC near your shop / what a great resource Pelican is. Cheers Forrest |
You may want to remove that Hedonism II sticker........or maybe you want to change your image!!
As I remember it is an adult nude resort in Jamaica!!! |

Cool little car. Lexan rear window would make the aural experience a little less punishing. Super ear plugs and a pair of muffs maybe...
Rear fenders are just stock steel that has been pulled some, or that is what it looks like was done to me. I like it. Good pick up, way to drive it, but is it street legal, even in Nevada? That could have been an interesting conversation on the side of the road with the patrolman. |
Congrats Wayne. You've come a long way since the first time we met at dunkel's a hundred years ago.
There was duct tape sealing the leaky sun roof on your 911SC. ;) Enjoy the cars, you've earned them. |
