Sticking accelerator pedal ONLY at oper. temp...
 

Can someone please tell me for certain why my accelerator pedal does not come up to retract position ONLY when the engine is at operating temp? Working fine during cold and warm-up....does it sound like my problem is at the pedal cluster or in the engine?

This is driving me crazy....when the engine is hot, i can literally press the acc. pedal down, lift my foot up, and the car stays at 3,000 rpms or higher.

Is the throttle return spring in the engine compartment still good? If the spring is fatigued, might it become more malleable when it is hot (ie. less 'springy')? Might be worth putting a new one in?

Check the drag on the throttle linkage bellcrank on the left side of the transmission. That bellcrank can get sticky when the transmission is hot and produce the symptoms you decribe. Remove the cotter pin, remove the bellcrank, clean up the corrosion, put back together with antiseize or a light grease.

Continuation ... your previous thread had a parts pix: the bellcrank that I refer to on the transmission is #12. John Walker says that this is rarely the problem, but I assure you it was the problem the I had that sounds just like your problem. It worked fine until it warmed up. Mine surfaced in Paris at the Arch d'Triumph traffic circle at rush hour! The crazy -- and petrified -- American with the malfunctioning Porsche surrounded by 1,000 Frenchmen whizzing by on their way home. They are probably STILL cussin' me.

so where's the bellcrank? anyone have a picture?

Thanks for your help Brian...that bellcrank **** was stuck at oper. temp and it wouldn't pull the acc. pedal to resting position. I loosened it slightly, sprayed a ****load of WD-40 all over the place and the problem seemed to have been solved (for now).

You just saved me a trip to the mechanic, inconvenience and all the other bull**** that comes along with a visit to repair shops.
