Need Advice - Fairly Urgent

Hello All,

I brought my car in for an inspection on Saturday and it failed the Safety portion of the inspection. I'm told it needs new shocks, ball joints, and tires to pass the safety portion of the inspection. As I'm new to Porsche I need advice as to what parts to tell the dealership I got it from to use in order to keep a sporty ride. This car is not a winter driver, even thou I'm doing this in MA in the middle of December.

Thanks for your help,
Anthony

Anthony, Where did you get it inspected??? Most of the inspection stations here have no clue about these cars( I live in Boston). I would suggest finding another one. While I can understand their issues with tires, I had them tell me my shocks were bad too. I had just replaced them!!! My car is set up for the track so the suspension is really stiff, the guy just though it was bad . if you are in the 128 area I have a couple of inspection places I could send you to.

Cheers, James

That would be great. Interestingly enough a Porsche Dealership sent me to a Shell dealership because they shut their machine off 5 min prior....

Thanks,
Anthony

Get a 2nd opinion on the items needed to fix your car. Chances are, the folks inspecting your car know very little about it. See if you can find a local, trust-worthy, independent shop to check your car.

Q. Are you planning to track your car, if so, then different parts may be needed.

I'm not looking to track it - but at the same time I didn't buy a buick. As the points on my driving record show, I have a bit of a heavy foot.....

Thos points are slowly but surely going away . I think its eveil to use points as a negative thing....

Hey Fellas' Sorry for the delay in response. The place I use for my inspections is Advanced Tire in Kendall Square. There either on Broadway or Cardinal Madieros Way(sp). As far as mechanics go, I use EPE in Natick. I've been going there for threee years now for both my cars and they have been great. In regrd to tires, what do plan on doing with the car ie: daily driving, track autox etc. ?

Cheers, James

James, I sent you a PM about potentially using Advanced for a tire balancing as well. I would like to do this today, as I need to get a new sticker, as well.

Is there someone specific I should ask for?

Thanks,
Magilla

Whoops, I never check my private mail. Sorry for the delay. I have never asked for any particular person. Just go in the garage they have marked for inspections. Best of luck!!!

Cheers, James

hi,

yeah, i've just done 6k on p6000's and i was disappointed (had them on previous bmw). i just switched to bridgestone s03. initial feeling is they are much better.

don't get me wrong the p6000 is a good tyre, just doesn't suit my 911 the way they did the bmw.

you'll get less mileage from the bridgestones.

you might want to consider changing the sizes depending on what you're currently running.

Yup, They mounted a set of tires on my freshly restored Fuchs. They were very considerate and asked if it was OK to put weights on the outside. Since I track the car I wanted the best balance so I let them. If you are going to be tracking the car tell them that so they know to take extra care in the balance.

I have P6000's in the front and I am replacing them with something else. I also didn't like them.
