Permatune - which coil?

Got a 3.0 SC engine which needs a coil before its fitted to the car, which is running a permatune box. Can a Bosch coil be used or do you need a special one for it?

I used the same black Bosch coil for both my premature box and my Bosch cdi box. However, don't buy a new silver Bosch coil. Not very reliable or good quality.

I seem to remember someone telling me that the problem with Permatune CD boxes was that folks were using them with the Bosch coils ( though Porsche used Permatunes in the early 70s). I wish I could remember who told me that (perhaps Henry Schmidt?), but it was someone whose knowledge base was above mine, so I tend to believe them. Hopefully someone with more electronic knowledge will chime in.

I've used Permatune with Bosch blue w/o issues. My original Permatune blue died several years ago and when I bought a new one I found that Permatune recommends using their own coil.

Unclear if another coil will cause issues.

Permatune manual says

".... any quality coil without an internal ballast resistor will work....."

but -" ... some "high performance" coils may cause flashover in the distr cap"
