Hey everyone!

I've finally got my new carpet kit and started loosely placing pieces in!

Can anyone give me and tips or heads up before I embark on this next task!

You don't say what year of vehicle you are dealing with, but the image here helped me when I replaced some carpet pieces in my car. It's from the '87 PET ('87-'89), but it should be pretty similar for all the 3.2 Carreras, and maybe SCs, too.

I found that which pieces go where was the biggest issue for me. However, as the the installation...

When you rip out the old carpet, you may need some solvents to help get everything. There are a few threads on this, but there are some good otions: one is 3M Automotive Adhesive Remover, and the other is orange/citrus based stripping agent. You don't have to make the surfaces spotless, just smooth. When dry, and it's time to add carpet, plan ahead because pieces overlap sometimes, and the order of application matters; think this through. I used 3M 8090 Super Trim Adhesive. (It's the heavy duty one, NOT 77). Spray some on the carpet back, and also on the car, and let both dry some (the directions on the spray can are specific and good, so follow those). I found that you need to be resonably accurate when placing the carpet down, as the glue grabs pretty well and re-positioning is difficult. Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area. Honestly, it's not that tough, but you will stress out with the first few pieces. Wrinckles is the main challenge. Don't worry, though, it gets easy the more you do it. It looks great when done.

after having just completed removing the carpet from my 87 this weekend...
Here's my 2 cents..

First piece you should install is your center console piece along the raised shift center.. This was the last piece I removed. Also, you'll want to verify the cutouts fit where your wires are. I had a tough time with a few wires that weren't exactly easy to pull out.


It may take up more time... But when I get my new carpet, I plan on test fitting ALL the pieces before hand. Once everything is laid out properly... I may leave it sit for awhile to let the carpet take shape before taking the sections out and gluing them down.

Just take your time. You can't rush the job.

I just use dabs of adhesive. I don't coat the whole back of the carpet.

I also like using a brush with the adhesive. Spray cans can get messy.

Top tip:

Disconnect the battery first. Unless of course you like a non-starting car. Personal experience :)
