DP Motorsports project sleeper 3.2
DP Motorsport Project Porsche 911 Sleeper Pictures, Pricing and Specs
I dont remember seeing this car? I remember a white one. Anybody have any more details - how did they get the weight below 2000 lbs? |
Quote:
Side rockers and rubber Engine Seal Rubber, struts ( Maybe more ) Back Seats Probably replaced allot of panels with plastic, maybe bumpers and bumper struts, etc etc. |
looks great, serious weight loss though.. no idea how they got it that low
|
based on the article....
carbon fiber panels metal supports drilled to swiss cheese, leaving only minimal structural stiffness titanium exhaust minimal interior AC and heat removed plastic and rubber bits removed plexiglass windows and of course... a "thin coating" of paint... But seriously.. titanium exhaust and carbon fiber panels will save you a lot of weight... that's probably at least 200+lbs? lightweight seats... and other interior bits... another 150lbs? comfort parts removed (heat, AC) another 100lbs? glass and all the rubber and plastic bits... another 100lbs.? finally cutting and drilling out extra metal. Depending on carbon fiber usage... if you replaced all panels, gas tank, roof, and other components with carbon fiber... that would be a lot of weight. |

Spec 911's can barely get to under 2,200lbs and there is absolutely nothing left of those cars. This one still retains a semblance of a street car |
Shows the bumper blades are carbon fiber. That's pretty cool. Wouldn't mind having a set of those.

The DP car is pretty much the same weight as mine, give or take a couple gallons of fuel. |
Yeah if I remember right the following parts on the white car were CF - probably the same here:
Roof Hood engine cover bumpers front fenders engine shroud and tin Seats more I cant remember |
Wow that link to the German DP site is cool. That dash board set up looks really nice.

Ballast on the Spec 911's is usually for lighter drivers. My direct comparison would be my Carrera Spec/Spec 911 race car. Still has metal fenders/hood and rear quarters, but other than that there is not even a superfluous bolt in the car; literally nothing left to be lighted/removed without cutting into the tub (doors weigh 30 lbs together). That car weighs just under 2,300 with fluids. |
I don't know, your cage is probably much more extensive than the DP car and the steel panels are still going to be quite heavy. My car could still loose a few more pounds.
|
Anyone has video's of this car with titanium exhaust?
Expensive pricing on the site for the lightweight materials :o |

It's kind of killing the idea when you write "Sleeper" on the deck lid. Awesome car nonetheless!
|
Nice car and likely very quick with all that weight removed. But they could have saved a few more grams by cutting off the airbox cover... ;)
And I don't know, but with the rockers removed on impact bumper cars, in a profile view, they look like they're sucking in their gut. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1480566727.jpg |

Would be more balanced with no front spoiler and a tad less rake. And yes, the "Sleeper" badge and boy racer fenders sticker don't seem in line with the cars title. |

It does say in the article linked above that they got the car "a little less than 905 kg (about 2000 lbs)" ... |
The power-to-weight ratio is dead on with a C5 Z06 Corvette.
Those cars moved pretty decent. |
The site said they were getting around 270HP with ported heads, different cam but stock air meter. Doesn't that seem suspiciously high?
|
DP is a well known company with good reputation. They would have no reason to claim anything they can't hold. So far I have sourced only one CF part from them, the tunnel cover. Excellent quality. Wallet permitting, it is tempting to get all the CF parts for the rear from them. Only thing is, I live in a city, the smallest hit even at a parking lot will be very expensive...

More balanced from the other side with the ducts running there. Aren't they on both sides? I had the idea to do this on my G-model. Is this the results from only removing the rockers? |

Bumping an old thread and an awesome car.
Does anyone know the color of this car? I didn’t see it in the articles. Also is there a US distributor for these light weight parts? They make the only fiberglass repro of the factory valance I’ve seen. I’d be interested in a set of those mirrors too. |
The mirrors may be these from Ruf. I have them on my car and they are asymmetric.. https://ruf-automobile.de/en/product/ruf-sportspiegel-kit-2/

as far as i know, the colour is Felsengrün metallic (699). You can also become the mirrors at dp motorsport. Here is a link: https://www.dp-motorsport.de/31.html?L=1&detailid=1122&product=52 I had these mirrors too. Mounted them on the little side window with one component adhesive. |

I found the parts catalogue here Porsche 911 G-Modell Karosserieteile one could go crazy with all those weight saving bits. I was more curious if there was a distributor in the US that stocked dp products. Ian, Thank you for the link to the RUF mirrors, they look similar to the ones from dp but are quite a bit more expensive. |
Yes, color is 699. I tried emailing them a couple times but no response. I’m in Leverkusen often for work, I think next time I’ll just drop by.
I like this build by them but personally my favorite build they’ve done is the Superlight RSR. 850kg and 292hp iirc. And that Ti exhaust drool http://i.imgur.com/Kp32yKr.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PzuPRou.jpg http://i.imgur.com/rVo18Me.jpg |
Ian,
Thank you for the link to the RUF mirrors, they look similar to the ones from dp but are quite a bit more expensive.[/QUOTE] I see what you mean, nearly half price! Wonder where the difference is? Are the DP ones asymmetric? Very happy with mine though, plenty of visibility and adjustment, plus a noticeable decrease in wind noise over the flags. As a result the car is much faster...... Ian |

My fave DP was always their 944 shooting brake, aka 2 door wagon. John
