Ducktail that fits please!
I have bought my last track quality ducktail. With the renewed popularity of these things, you would think someone would profit by making one for a street car. You know, A/C compatible, strong, ready for paint. The last few I have come accross, no repitable paint shop would even do it! Unless you do glass work yourself, (like the buyer of my last one) you will have $1000 in painting it and about that much in fitting and fabrication. Can anyone help?

Have you tried, Rennspeed, M A Shaw, Gt racing???
|
MA Shaw products are top quality. I used their fiberglass hood and Yellow Bird front bumper cap. Fitting was perfect and the glass was very straight. My car is black so it would show if the part was bad. Absolutely nothing but a light scuffing to apply the paint. I work down the street from Mike house and have seen many of his products. I can't say enough. No affiliation. I haven't spoken to him in a while but tell him the guy with the black targa refered you and he may cut some $ off.

If you want a fiberglass tail bonded to a steel decklid, then this is the way to go.

I would stay away from Hank at GT-racing. The fit on my race car was horrible and the parts were damaged in shipping. I called Hank at GT racing 4 times about replacement of my hood WITHOUT any calls back. I got tired of waiting for a call and just had the body shop do the fiberglass repairs for $100+ on the hood. THANKS HANK! Not good business sense.
My .02 cents I let everyone know when they ask. I would use MA Shaw. |
MA Shaw, hands down. I had the opportunity to fit one of his ducks on my SC. Perfect fit, solid construction. His ducktail is around 400.00 or so, going from memory. In fact, I hope to purchase one in the near future myself :)

OK, does anyone have a MA Shaw email address or phone #?
Thanks, Derek |

I have the glass bonded to steel and it fits great. Came w\car when I bought it. I bought a rs rear bumper from gt and it took me about 6 hours to get right. But I also bought a front rs's' from gt and it fit great!

For everyday use this (ducktail - steel/glass) seems to be a better option as I have an a/c condensor, pull type fans, and I wish to retain the lid shocks. My question to you is "have you noticed any hairline cracks forming near the transition of the 2 materials?." Thanks, Bob |
I repainted my car about 2 years ago and prepped the tail myself which was in crappy shape. There was surface rust and yes, minor cracks. But, these were not that bad. I've had the car for 12 years and the owner before had it installed 5 yrs before that.
