Porsche Crest Weekend project

Well I had to share, my weekend project is starting Friday after work. I'm dropping the engine and swapping my tranny for a later Carrera 915 with a taller 5th gear. One of the board members is buying my 915 for his 1974. I'm pretty excited since it's the first time I'm doing this (my mechanic is helping me out but I'm going to try to do most of it myself so I can learn). Since the engine and tranny are going to be out, I've decided to paint the engine bay in gray. I'll be taking pics of every step..so I will post them over the weekend.

Now all you need is a really cool third brake light!

You said "weekend project"? While this can easily be done in a weekend, I'm not sure a first timer with a planned paint job is gonna make it happen by end of Sunday. You're planning on replacing the clutch while you're in there right? How about breather gasket, oil thermostat o-ring, idiot light sensor, flywheel seal, flywheel resurfacing - just to name a few things? You might as well get it all out of the way while you're in there.

Hey Shawn, I'm actually gonna drop-off the 3rd break light over at my friend's body shop to get it painted..so that might just be "next weekend's project"!

Richard, I actually put the 3.0L in just a few months ago and we put in a complete new clutch back then, probably has 2k miles on it, so I'm re-using all that. The paint is not going to take that long, the plan is to pull the engine out (about 1 hour), I'll start cleaning and degreasing the engine bay and get it ready for paint.
Saturday morning I will paint it and let it dry until Sunday. In the meantime on Saturday, my mechanic is teaching me how to rebuild both transmissions and change all the seals. Sunday we're dropping everything back in. It will be a tight schedule, but I think we can do it!

Cheers!
