Question High Tension noise from Radio

All,

Just a quick question regarding high tension suppression on a '81 SC. I'm getting the old click click noise from the radio - is that a sign of a cr&p radio or do I have a high tension lead problem. The problem has been with the car since I bought it.

Thanks, Simon

Possibly a bad ground. They usually cause a whine but maybe a click? Try grounding to a different place. And if more than one ground is used with the radio/amp ground them to the same place.

If the clicks are more frequent as the rpm's go up, them maybe it's the plug wires.
If it's more of a whine...then it's the altenator.

yep.. grounds can get complicated.. so your FM is clicking, or is it only the AM?.. hope you don't miss Rush"s program because of it.. and even dirty spark plugs can sometimes cause problems.. are you using stock wires? sometimes those Beru plug connectors are a PIA.. and if the radio is a CB then a resistor spark plugs will cure it.... I think an experienced guy should be able to tell if it's a single plug wire or all of them.. the problem is a kinda touchy feely thing, IMHO.. maybe " bell will have something to offer.. if he doesn't jump in, do a PM.........Ron

Thanks for the comments.

Clicking increases with RPM and occurs on both AM & FM. Plugs are new and the high tension leads are the stock, but ageing.

I need to check the earth situation and I might also pull the high tension leads of one by one and run the engine to see which one is offending.

Cheers, Simon

OK, clearer picture.. no experience with a bad Beru connector, but that's a likely fault.. so you know the drill with an ohm meter, etc..and shaking the connector w/meter connected.. I hate those connectors. I think your problem will be solved soon.. feels like a poker game w/electrical stuff in cyberspace.. I'm betting on connectors.........Ron
