I have arrived at a decision to sell my sweet Venetian Blue car. The original plan was to drive it daily and preserve my old Jeep which was my previous daily driver. The Porsche has cost me a lot more money than I had ever planned, I guess because of the timing. After I got it, all the various things that wear out after 18-20 years finally did and I made many repairs before I was even able to start my update and tweak list. Now, my Jeep has finally worn out, and I need a new car. I cannot afford a new car and to keep the Porsche at the same time. I look at the future possibilities for my 150K mile 911 and I surmise that it may run strong for another 100K miles just as it is, or the expensive engine and clutch rebuild may need to be done in 10K miles, and I would not be able to afford that any time soon. My wife and I had planned a Gran Turismo of the National Parks of Western America for the spring. On our 4-day Labor Day weekend recently we made a 2200 mile test trip to British Columbia and back. The car ran strong and handles magnificently, but gas prices really made it an expensive trip. I have ordered a 2008 Honda Fit Sport (has been sold as the "Jazz" in Europe) which will be reliable, fun to drive and will get 40 mpg, an affordable way to still be able to do our tour. And should last me for 10 years and 300K miles.
I do not regret any of this. I am selling my car to the Porschefile friend who helped me work on it. He has a 1971 and a 1967 911, a garage, tools, know-how and true reverence for Porsches. I am giving it to him in great running shape, which makes me feel good. He will love it and care for it and even let me drive it some time. Hopefully the Porsche owners around here will still gather and then I can drive one of his cars for a day. I will always love Porsches, and from now on, I will love them as one who "knows." I learned how to do many repairs and the tuning myself (with the help of the worldwide community!) and I drove that car for 30K miles on some of the most stunning and fun roads in North America. On our recent trip we spent hours at 100 mph in Canada, listening to only the wind and the song of a happy 3.2. I have satisfied a lifelong dream. I can’t thank the Pelican community enough. I haven't been too active here lately, but you guys got me through some really tough spots particularly with my flexible oil lines. And I practically own stock in the parts dept! I wish you many, many hours and miles and smiles in cars made in the legacy of Professor Porsche. Here’s pics from the trip. Man, great photos. I wish you well.
I am a "former" Alaskan, but as you know, you can't completely get over Alaska. I spent a lot of time on the pipeline and slope which provided a great opportunity to see the little traveled regions of the state. I was in SE for four years prior to that at Ketchikan Pulp before it was shut down. Just an awesome time of my life. Take care, Troy

Really great pics of a stunning looking car in a fantastic scenery!
Sounds like you have lived the legend to the fullest with many a good memory of Porsche ownership. Happy Honda-ing!

Hi Everyone,
Der Mond, do you know who you sold your 87 to? Perhaps a fellow Pelican? I ask, as I am awaiting delivery of your car

I wouldn't be surprised if you're back again in the future. These cars tend to get under your skin and you miss them when they're gone. I'm on my third so far!

It has been awhile since he parted with it. I am eager to receive it and give it a great home that is a lot warmer than Alaska

I sold it to Dave Graham, North Pole Alaska but not sure he participates in the forum. This is how it looks currently...
