Braille AGM battery??
Can someone tell me if this battery would work for my car?
https://www.braillebattery.com/index.php/braille/product_batteries/b6034m I'm not adding any electrical requirements to the car other than the aftermarket radio and maybe a radar detector/iPhone charger plugged in the cigar lighter? I'm just wanting something slightly smaller and/or at least having the terminals facing the other way so that the terminals are easier to get to.

Do you start your car at 32°F? 0°F? You can cut the cold-cranking-amps required to start your car in half for each situation you're unlikely to find yourself in. You probably don't want a deep-cycle marine battery, either.
In any event, CCAs for this battery aren't listed, but it's a 43 pound monster. You could probably start a Veyron at freezing with that thing. You could go much smaller, too (depending on your needs): https://smile.amazon.com/Odyssey-PC680-Battery/dp/B0002ILK6I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481319919&sr=8-1&keywords=pc+680 They're all made by East Penn Manufacturing and rebranded (Odyssey, Deka, Braille, Duracell, Lifeline). In fact, I'm pretty sure all batteries in the United States are manufactured by Johnson Controls, Exide, and East Penn. Last edited by Tremelune; 12-09-2016 at 02:05 PM.. |

I'm not too worried about weight... just want a battery with smaller dimensions and/or having the terminals positioned on the same side as the corresponding cable. The link for the Odyssey is great, but 170 CCA doesn't seem like much (considering the OEM size battery is nearly 1000 CCA). Also the posts are opposite of where the cables are.

I've been using this battery for 3 years now. 86 targa ac,radar, new radio. Much lighter and smaller. Member nineball has a thread on the installation.

PCA isn't really a standard, but it's fairly representative of the load a battery might see while starting a good car on an average day (5 second pulse at maybe 70°F):
Braille Battery Forums • View topic - What is PCA or Pulse Cranking Amps? Many people run the PC680 (170 CCA, 520 PCA), and it will likely be the one I put in my car next (though my last battery went nine years, so). The only one I have first hand experience is the PC925 (330 CCA, 900 PCA). It starts my 3.6 with no hesitation, and has never left me stranded. That said, I've only had it a year, and never had to start the car after a 0°F night left off the tender, but I suspect I'll never have to try. These batteries all come in many sizes, shapes, and post locations. Best bet is to sniff around Amazon for a Deka or Odyssey and pick your preferred size and configuration. I like the Odysseys because you can easily screw on posts that match the OEM clamps. The Dekas usually have posts more appropriate for powersports hookups. |

I ran a Braile for a couple of years. Now I run a Deka.... which I believe it she same battery.... just about half the price. No problems at all with the lightweight Deka battery.

It is the Odyssey PC535. Extreme Series Battery Specifications – ODYSSEY battery Not sure if that battery will work, as it seems rather light in power. I do plan on starting the car on 30 degree mornings.. as the temperature here tends to fluctuate as much as 40 degrees.... (30 in the morning and 70 by late afternoon)

This may be a dumb question, but considering that most of these are half the size of OEM...Why not just flip the battery around or locate it exactly where you want it?
It's unclear why terminal locations are a concern for you, as they seemed ideally located for my car. |
