Help identify starter connections

Attached is a photo showing black, blue, green, and red arrows. The red and green arrows may be pointing to the same connection. Please help me identify the electrical connection and state the purpose of each connection.

RR, From the Bentley. If this is the attached solenoid it appears that the connections are as follows; Black arrow is terminal 30 from the battery. Blue arrow is terminal 15 not used. Red arrow is to the starter field winding and the green arrow is terminal 50 from ignition switch.

SC-Bentley page 270-7: All of these connections are on the solenoid:
1.Terminal 30 from Battery-black arrow 2.Terminal 50 from ignition switch-green arrow 3.To starter field winding-red arrow 4.Terminal 15a to cold start injector-blue arrow Check these suggestions. The battery terminal is easily identified (It should always have power) Disconnect the battery pos. terminal and you won't have anymore voltage at the 30 starter-terminal. The starter terminal 50 is a yellow wire on my '80 SC. Again, with everything connected, if you pull off this terminal from the starter, the ignition switch will not turn over the engine. (This wire activates the solenoid which pulls in the starter gear into the ring gear on the flywheel. The field winding terminal is self-expanatory; it disappeares into the starter. That just leaves you with the cold start wire which affects the cold start valve (injector)When working on your starter, always disconnect your battery!) The starter has only two fasteners. On top is usually a 10mm Allen barrel nut and the bottom one can be seen. (Can be hex.) Have fun. SmileWavy |

To be sure, this photo is from the ground looking up at the solenoid attached to the starter. I agree that the black arrow points to the battery wire, but shouldn't it read about 12volts? I'm getting about 1volt with the car off. Does this sound right? Thanks. |
