Can Koni shocks be rebuilt ? and is it worth it ?
I have Koni shocks all around on my 74S Targa.
The fronts are quite recent, but the rears were already there when I bought it 12yrs ago, and they're a bit "gone" by now. Is it worth it to rebuild them / refill them or is better just to order new ? |

I had some off the shelf Koni strut inserts rebuilt and revalved a bunch of years ago by Truesports. I was generally happy with the results, but for some reason they couldn't re-pressurize the shocks as part of the rebuild, so they are no longer gas-filled shocks. They also had to shorten the shock bodies by a small amount to re-seal them because of the way that type of shock is sealed.
I'd be curious if it can be done better by another vendor. |

I have Bilsteins on my track car and I've had them rebuilt several times
A rebuild is superior to an off the shelf shock because they will do custom valving. In other words when you have a shock rebuilt it's rebuilt to your specific needs. An off the shelf shock is simply generic. One size fits all. Richard Newton Shock Absorbers 101 |
