Porsche Crest Nürburgring videos

http://vanadium.prg.dtu.dk/~pmc/andersj/

The 944 Turbo video is nicely action filled, but unfortunately let down by the dirty windscreen and low sun.

The film with the M5 is nice. He works hard to loose the GT3, but somehow the GT3 sticks to his (often sliding) tail

The rest are good also. Notice the motorcycles and the turist bus (!) and the puny Suzuki Swift, Opel Kadett, Mercedes M-class etc. AND remember, on the Nürburgring the insurance doesn't cover in case of a fender bender.... What if the guy in front of you suddenly gets it wrong.... Arrgh

You sure about that? I remember reading that the ring is considered a 1 way toll road, and therefore you are covered.

At this ring this fall I passed one of those buses. Pretty cool to see the folks getting the tour of the track, not just a quick photo at the gate.

Well at least none of the danish insurance companies would cover. That's for sure. If some German companies will I'm not sure. But it'll be expensive I guess.

that ring has been closed since mid december for repairs, should open back up soon. There is a real good page by a guy in the UK dedicated to the story of the ring and it's MANY accidents... I will look for the link and post it.

Ok, found it: http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/

The white M5 is a ring taxi. Driven by a girl. A trip costs more than 100 Euro for 1 on 2 persons.

When I was there in September the ringtaxi was not in service. I was initially intereted in a ride, but was told it only operated in the spring and summer. I drove 5 laps for about $60, not nearly as fast as the M5, but I was driving. Even if the track is closed the museum is worth a look. I spend half a day taking pictures and at the indoor kart track.

Have fun!

Eric,

These videos run at anywhere between 1 and 2 Mbit. The couple that I have downloaded have been between 90 and 130 MB. Your best bet is to right click on the link and do "save link as" or "save link target as" so you can save it to your local machine and then watch from the harddrive instead of over the web.

Here is the Ring-Taxi. The inkeeper where I stayed near the Ring told me that the driver (a woman) owns a restaurant nearby and drives the Taxi full time. What a life! She also evidently uses up a set of tires every day in that M5.

It's interesting to see in the 944 video, the amount that the transaxle (?) moves around while going through the corners ie: the shift lever. It really moves quite a bit. Brian

One of the pictures from the www.nurburgring.org.uk site

Stefan Bellof's crash during the 1983 1000km race at Pflanzgarten 2. A real testament to Porsche safety that he walked away from this one.
