This could be trouble...please advise
 

The other day, while moving my engine a piece broke from the "chain tensioner area."

How serious does this look? While it appears to be a replacable plastic part, things are seldom that simple.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Not the end of the world.
You broke a temperature sensor that works with the injection system.
You don't mention your engine type/model/ year, but here is the part #:
#930 606 117 00

I'll go check that information now. I'll try to supply some more photos.
