Convert SWB wide body to LWB wide body....
What would it actually take to do this? Car is a 1968 912, 6 cylinder swapped, 930 style wide body fiberglass flairs but on in the early 90's....
Short wheel base arms suck, for everything. Brakes, etc... What would it take to convert to a long wheel base car. -Trailing arms and all associated parts (would this all bolt right up to my SWB torsion?) -LWB wide body flares, steel or glass I guess. Is that really it? The rear flairs now need a lot of body work to make them work anyway... so i'm not opposed to removing them. Hell i'm not even opposed to bolt-on style RWB-type flairs even front and rear.... Just trying to figure out if it is worth the time and effort... what think ye?

You'll need LWB trailing arms, spring plates, and axles. '69-'71 trailing arms will be easiest as the factory changed the arms and corresponding shock tower/cross member in '72 and on. Of course, if you change the cross member, you'll have the option to go with lighter aluminum trailing arms.
I always feel steel flares are best for street use. Align the torsion bar hole in the flare to that in the chassis and you're 90% the way there. Best to have the suspension converted already and the car sitting on the suspension at ride height and wheels at least "close" aligned for best results when fitting the new flare.

this is really what I want to do, but it really seems like a can of worms that I don't want to deal with... maybe i just finish this car out the way it is and focus on my next purchase.....

What started all of this is the fact that the 2.25" spacing on the brake caliper mounts on SWB arms allows for ZERO brake upgrades. And then I saw a set of aluminum arms complete with brakes and everything on the classifieds for like $575... and I thought hmmmm maybe. But they are like from a 74, so that would mean that my upper crossmember wouldn't even work... soooooooo
