Post Taking fan off shaft

I would like to paint the fan on my 72. Took pulley off, belt etc. How the heck does the fan come off the shaft-won't budge.
Thanks!

most folks take the whole housing off and do it on the bench. remove the alternator/fan unit from the housing. support the outer ends of the fan on a couple of 4x4s so the alt hangs off the ground 4" or so, and wack the shaft with a plastic hammer. pad the floor with a pile of rags, so you don't damage the alt as it falls. some won't budge, requiring an air hammer with a pointed bit aimed dead center on the shaft.

be carefull when you put the fan back on, the moon shaped shaft key will want to push out of its key way.it pushed all the way out when i put mine on and its hard to tell if it stayed in when you push the fan on.
