Great driving roads in Va.

I have just moved to Va. and I am looking for good driving roads. I have heard of a road called "The Devil's Backbone". I think it is a bigger version of the "Tail of the Dragon". Any suggestions for roads in VA., WV., TN. or MD.

VA is a big state. Which part?
Google maps is your friend.
Use "terrain" view to check out some roads in your area.
That's how I plan my weekend!!
For example, here is tail of the dragon (129) in east TN / west NC:

Depends a great deal on where you are, but it's a beautiful driving state and I still miss it more than 25 years after moving to So. CA. I grew up in Richmond in the 70's and 80's and there were lots of great driving roads back then even within the city limits. I terrorized the city in a dilapidated TR4 on bias ply tires so maybe the speed threshold for scaring oneself was somewhat less than what might excite you in a 911.

Skyline Drive is magical but has a speed limit of 45mph. Still worth doing.

cheers

Parkway, UGH

Stay away from the Blue Ridge Parkway or Skyline drive unless on a bike or in an RV, horrible. Really funny to watch the Top Gear Guys do a quick segment on the Blue Ridge Parkway, they hated it. Now a fun road because it was part of a drive from my old home to my Grandparents house and my dad avoided this road because my little brother always got sick and puked.
Between Brookneal, VA and Gretna, VA. Road #40, stage coach road. Just a road in farm country that is really twisty. Not heavily traveled but have to be careful obviously. The half closer to Brookneal is the twisty part, done many times in my car. Passengers will be queasy and have to hold on. Secure your belongings.

Go to Richmond. Head west on route 360 and get out of the suburbs. Turn off at any side road you want into the hills and countryside.

Man I miss those roads.

Craft Brew or Winery

Pick a craft brewery or winery in the Shenandoah, set your phone or GPS to avoid highways - and enjoy the drive.

Wow, I did that Brookneal to Gretna drive many times back and forth to school. I totally forgot about what a great drive that was.

There are nice driving roads in Virginia but watch your speed. They are tough on speeding.

+1, also like this drive (doing it quite often from Winchester to UVA to drop off/pick up my daughter).
Also, from Winchester take Rt 50 West to Romney, WV and then up by Mount Storm to Canaan Valley. Bring your clubs if you are a golfer or go for a hike.
Another, from Winchester take Rt 522 North and after about 6 Miles follow thr signs to Pawpaw, WV. From there go on to Cumberland, MD. You can follow interstates from there to get back to Northern Virginia.

Or just go anywhere West of Winchester and follow a country road. If you get lost just keep driving East until you hit I81 (optional use of GPS is OK)

522 between Gum Spring and Culpeper is nice, particularly the lower part up to Mineral. Driving enjoyment depends on traffic so it can be a hit or miss proposition.

20 mph over the speed limit is reckless driving in VA and they take it seriously, everywhere. Watch the speed limits!

I have lived in VA all my life (I'm 50). There are still some great driving roads I've not experienced.

Watch your speed (I use the Waze Ap).

I bought my first Porsche from a man in Virginia. I took 81 all the way down then hung a left towards culpeper (not sure of spelling). Anyway I had a 28ft box truck with a car trailer in tow and it was pretty nasty driving, great for a Porsche. Some awesome roads through the mountains but as others said a lot of cops.
