Scott Guildner, Body and Paint: Los Angeles' Best Kept Secret
I've just had my 911 painted and have to post here to HIGHLY recommend the man who did it; Scott Guildner and his team.
Those of us here in Los Angeles know there's no shortage of specialist Porsche shops for body fabrication, repair and restoration, yet finding someone who'll repair or paint your car not only to an exacting standard yet do so within a realistic budget I was finding to be nothing short of a major challenge. So in need of a skilled painter to paint my 1987 backdated Porsche 911 a few months ago I called all the recommended specialists in LA, (and most custom/non-Porsche paint shops) and subsequently received quotes ranging from the very cheap to the very expensive (acid bath/rotisserie/gilt-edged reputation etc) with prices fluctuating wildly among them. Either too cheap or too expensive. I'm sure I'm not alone in finding this... Enter Scott Guildner. Scott's not only a Porsche enthusiast through and through who owns a couple of particularly lovely classic 911's himself, (including one his parents bought new in 1969), but he's also master metal fabricator and, more importantly to me, a highly skilled painter. Scott's shop in the San Fernando valley is home to an array of classic Porsches, (some celebrity-owned although I'm not at liberty to say by whom!) and his enthusiasm and knowledge for the marque is absolute. I'm surprised there's been so little written about him, but I guess some have little need to advertise. One thing's obvious though; to a select few he is LA's best kept secret. My particular car had the original paint (Marine Blue), no rust and only the most minor of blemishes, and Scott told me that if I took the time to disassemble it myself before taking it to him and then reassemble after that that'd bring the cost down some. In other words he'll work with you to help you achieve your desired result, something I found to be unique among painters. I couldn't be happier with the result - my car looks amazing- a dream come true in Bahama Yellow! The paint finish is superb. Better than a particular concours entry car I studied earlier this year at Santa Monica airport. I hesitate to use the word flawless, but I've yet to spot one flaw! Worst paint Job ever by Scott
You got extremely lucky becuase this guy did the worst paint job on my car imaginable . My 964 needed no body work and was straight and original.Wanted to do a color change to non metallic paint. The job was suppose to take "6" weeks. He had the car close to a year. The guy does not have a srpay booth and must have painted it in the cold since the paint is shrinking all over under the clear. He must have know it was a crappy job since I can see sections were redone and blended (badly). The car is missing paint in areas and others are lacking any clear. I had the paint corrected to try and smooth it out a bit so that we could at least but a clear wrap on it and make it look uniformed. I didnt want to lose the car for another 6 months to have it stripped and redone hopefully by someone competent so elected to wrap it for now. I would not let this guy paint a car model not alone your car.

Anyone considering this guy should talk with TRE first... understand they've had some issues.
Tread carefully. |

I was referred to Scott a few years back as a Hot Rod painter that was also into Porsches. Before I was going to send him my car, I gave him a few small projects (Porsche related) to test his skills. All I can say is I felt fortunate to get my parts back and I moved on.
