And is there a bar of LEDs that can light up like a signal strength meter on a stereo?

Try Radio-Shack for the DIY "kits" for the bars of LEDs. I know that you can get them here in Austalia which will show you, via a row of coloured LEDs, your mixture ratio... Green=Good, yellow=warning, Red=danger as far as taking a signal from your O2 sensor. I should think that something along these lines will be adaptable to your needs.

Get down to Radio Shack... or "To the nerdery!" :D Actually I am always buying little bits and pieces at places like that. Never know when it comes in handy.

You could modify that lower bar of LEDs to be your throttle position readout!

THat's an excellent start... Thing is I bet a car battery meter only has a range of 11-14 volts though...

See, that looks great. Now, where's the electronic tech student/whiz kid/guru who can throw that together into a box that allows me to flip a switch for either mph or rpm on the digital display, and then add a red light for brake, and make the bar LEDs work to show throttle position?

I'll pay for all the parts, and there's a thrilling ride in BB2 for the guy who can figure it out. :cool:

i would need to know,
for the inputs:
input 1: throttle position: 0% = ? 0 volts, 0 ohms or 4-milliamps 100%=? 5 volts, 135ohms?, or 10 milliamps.
output to meter: i can send a 0-10vdc signal to drive a staging relay say 3.3 volt = 33%, 6.6 = 66% 10 v = 100% or drive an led display that would be analogous say 0 to 100%. i may have a 1.5 inch high red led for that purpose.
input 2: brake position : either a dry contract relay brake on = closed brake off = open
output2 : drive a form c relay to light a red led = on green led = off.
input 3: can count pulses up to 8000 a second: say a wheel sensor.
output3: could drive a gauge to read anything you need even program for acc or deceleration.
adam mentions the tps for inputs if we know the signal that is being sent we can set up a table in the controller to reflect the signal i can even curve fit it if the signal is non-linear.

cant think of anything that cant be monitored or displayed if we have the correct input and output devices.

i do this stuff for a living. i control motors, valves, dampers, frequency controllers, relays, pumps, we measure velocities, flows, temps/humidities, positions, etc. so the only thing i would need for that tacho to display what you want is what is the signal being sent from the sensor and for what range. and what signal drives the dispaly (vdc is easiest)
