I do appreciate your comment about using a local glass guy, but I would bet my dog's life that there is not an autoglass guy within 70 miles of Montgomery Alabama that knows how to put in the windshield of a '72 Porsche without royally screwing it up.

Local glass guy did my front and back 356 windshields no problem with new seals and cheap. I thought about doing it myself as well as I had already removed them. Been down your dirt road.

Not to mention you'd have to drive all that way with the windshield in your lap.

They have work vans and come to your house these days. It was 300 total to install both front and back.

"Not to mention you'd have to drive all that way with the windshield in your lap."

Yeah, that did occur to me too!

Well I am happy to report that I got my windshield installed finally. I eventually came to the realization that one of the windshield trim pieces was FUBAR. I got a new one from Pelican and, to my surprise, it was bent so it would fit inside the box it was shipped in! Actually it was reasonably easy to straighten and it solved my problems. I did learn a few things from my first failed attempt (seat the bottom part of the windshield into the grove, make sure the window is centered, and recruit a second pair of hands to seat the windshield on the left and right sides as I pulled the strings to get the seal flaps over the "lips"). It ain't perfect but it looks pretty good from 3 feet.
