Autozone VR1 $2/quart
Visiting dear old mom in the Cornflake belt (NE Ohio). Stopped in Autozone and they were clearing out their stock of VR1 20 w 50 - $2.00 a quart. I bought 10 and drove to another store and picked up 15 more. Felt like I was stealing it.
No idea if it's just local or whether it's in other parts of the country as well, but thought I'd pass it along if you're driving by the place. |
Thanks for the tip, I'm checking them out tomorrow

I just waltzed into my local AutoZone to pick up some VR-1 and was surprised to see the "close-out sale" sign for $2/quart. It was all gone. Apparently here in the People's Republic of Kalifornia, the stuff is no longer legal to sell. I tried several other of my local parts stores and ran into the same problem. Even tried to buy it on Amazon Prime but a message pops up saying "problem shipping to my address". Now What? Alternatives?

Oh great. VR1 is NLA? That sucks.
|
Still see it on Amazon - at least for a NorCar resident.

Switch to Diesel Oil?

What's the problem with VR-1 that California has outlawed it?

Couldn't compete with the quality of proven Castrol GTX 20W-50 ?
|
Just picked up some in North Carolina. $2.00 qt. Guy said today was the last day of the sale.
Awesome! Thank you and Merry Christmas. |
I bought some in O'reilly in California a few weeks ago. If it's NLA in CA that's news to me.
|
I just buy this stuff- I have not found the stuff on sale for a long time whenever the post pops up.

Wow!
If California banned VR-1, then they will probably ban all oil with higher amounts of ZDDP. Holy smokes. I just went to my two local Auto zone stores and it is all gone. Then I just tried to order through Amazon and they said cannot to my address in California!!! What do we do??

Use Castrol GTX 20W/50 or Kendall GT-1 20W/50. I've read the convincing articles with controlled scientific test's results, including this one:
"For those of us who have been long term adherents to the theory that premature cam and lifter failure is attributable to the elimination of Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate (ZDDP) from modern oils, the following link is to a very long but thought provoking blog related to the subject." https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/motor-oil-wear-test-ranking/ |
