Old style interior rear view mirrow in 911sc? Can it be done?

Hey guys looking into an older style rear view mirror for my SC. I see it looks like it mounts to the roof via 3 screws. Has anybody installed one of these in a newer 911 such as a SC or Carrera? This is the one I'm looking at. Any help would be great. Also can I remove the old mirror and mounting plate off my windshield w/out cracking it?

Just looked at my SC and it has one large hole in the center and NO screw hole. I actually ditched mine the last time i installed my windshield.

Well I know Magnus has one in his 964, so it can be done. My car is almost done and has no headliner in it now so I figured the time is now.

I saw that and I think it looks pretty nice. Sometimes I think it's a "grass is greener situation". If the old cars had glued on mirrors, maybe we'd be losing our trim mounter metal mirrors.
Good luck,
Dave

There is no problem doing it you just have to drill the holes carefully! I did it on my 78 SC and it looks great. Also backdated to chrome door handles, really pops on a black car.

what are you drilling into? I'm not near the car now, is there some kind of extra metal there? Seems like it would be going direct into roof no?
