Sometimes my windows won't work
So I get in my 86 and drive for awhile, and my electric windows won't go down. I'll get home, turn the car off, turn the key on, and they still don't work. I wait a little while, go and and start the car, and the windows work fine.
So it's not a fuse. And I have a voltmeter in the car and it always indicates 13 plus volts while driving. Everything else in the car works fine. I suspect no one else has ever had this problem. Any thoughts? |

I fixed mine with a shot of Deoxit D5 to the switches.

my lady does not do windows either. sometimes she'll let me set a mirror up if she is feeling exceptionally pretty.... id marry her if only she did windows & was exceptionally pretty more often...:D

Swap the switches around to confirm if a bad switch, +1 though the fuse may look good, it may have shrunk , spin in the holder to see if they are loose.

Could a faulty door switch be related?
Do your cabin lights work consistently? |
I had a similar problem. Changed a switch and it went away. If it's both windows it's probably the driver's side window switch.

If you mean that all of them stop and start working g simultaneously then I'd suspect it's a fuse or relay
If it's just one switch in particular then I'd pull it out. Make sure that all the wires are tight and clean the switch wire contacts |
Mine does this too. The switches get a little dodgy as they age.

I also have a window and mirror problem. I send the car for paint and the shop removed the doors. They put it all back together but didn't have the switches to test it all. I spent a pile of time hunting and found some ground issues. Now I have part time operation. I had my son try too - 3 year engineering student who knows things. Neither of us could get this all right but we both expect I have at least one switch acting up. I've ordered new switches and will replace them all - mirrors too. I will eliminate that and move on. I'm not a fan of chasing electrical issues on these cars.

These silly window switches are the source of so many problems. I can't imagine why a better design can't be made.
Check the male spades on the back of the switch and make sure all of them are solid. They can get loose and then the contact is not consistent... |
Start with the simplest solution first. I had this intermittent problem on my drivers side window. I pulled the switch out and noticed that the wires were crimped. I uncrimped them and pushed the switch back in. Problem solved

Similar problem on my '88, turned out to be a kink in the wire for the passenger side window. Took FOREVER to figure it out, finally found it by pulling the wire that goes from the dash area into the door and found the kinked section that would make contact 90% of the time. i messed around with replacing switches and other issues for a long time before I found the actual problem.
