More agressive alignment needed. what specs?
I'm taking my 83 sc to the shop tomorrow to have a more aggressive alignment done on the wheels.
It's a daily driver but I also what to have it track ready in case I decide to do some auto-xing in the spring...I currently have a set of Kumho Ecstas Supra: 205/55WR-16 225/50WR-16 Can someone tell me what specs I should get in terms of camber/toe-in, etc? thanks. |
how much track and how much street time?
Front: as much camber as you can get as much caster as you can get set the toe to zero Rear: As much camber as you can get set the toe at 1/4" total (this would be toe in) |
At least 1.25 negative camber in the front and 2 in the rear. that's where mine are with 1/8" toe in. Fun set up. A little darty in the grooves in the street but not unsafe by any means.
But everything must work together. I have 2230 lbs, 21/28 torsion bars, 225/45 and 255/40 Kuhmos, Bilstein Sports rear, HD in front, Drop link bumper steer, lowered so front spoiler is at 2.5" @ front 25" from ground to wheel well in front and 24.5" in rear, 86 Carrera sway bars, and poly bushings everywhere. |
I would say 98% street time and 2% track time...
I want the steering wheel to feel "tight" but not so tight that I can't bear it....I drive on the highway most of the time with very few left and right turns.. My set-up is: Bilsten sport shocks all around turbo-tie rods Euro-spec ride height. currently no sway bar. 205/55WR-16 225/50WR-16 |
I have heard...
Front camber 1 - 1.25 neg caster as much as you can get toe 1/32 Rear camber 1.5 neg toe 1/16 SC with no sway bar?? I thought the last time they did that was back in the late sixties or early seventies?!? |
I basically run what Steve suggested and I don't have any dartyness or weird tire wear. I do 6-10 track days a year and it is a good compromise.
If you or someone decides to go with the setup Tim suggested be aware that when you increase camber in the rear you increase toe out. You can only increase the camber to a certain point (1.5 deg on my car) before you can't adjust the toe into range. A race shop familiar with 911's can get around this but a "normal" alignment place wouldn't be able to. -Chris |
