Alternator ground strap
As a winter project I decided to change the fan belt and clean up the fan and housing of my 82 SC. I made sure to mark all the wires before removing them from the alternator and to make a drawing of how they were connected. However, when I removed the alternator I found the ground strap laying on top of the engine. It is connected to one of the top engine bolts, but nowhere to the alternator prior to removal. Is it possible this ground strap was connected to one of the air deflector nuts, as some of the nuts I had to disconnected by feel as I could not see them.
I have searched many threads and read every thing I can find about replacing an alternator and although the ground strap is constantly mentioned, they never mention where exactly it goes on the alternator. One terminal on my three terminal alternator has several brown wires going to it which to me indicates it is a ground. I feel this is where this ground strap should be connected, but I figured I would ask the experts before I screw up a good alternator or my wiring harness. Thanks in advance for any and all info you can provide |

Yes. It goes on the one with all the brown wires. See photo.
