RSR Bilstein strut mods'

Our customer 914 GTL Spec racer with 3.6 915 tran's with newly installed RSR type Bilstein 's along with 935 style front suspension, combined with 23.5x12 R16 Hoosier tires, necessitated additional modifications to the front struts, this is a common issue with any lowered 914 911 with low pro' tires, causing incorrect geometry and roll center height, along with in this case limited suspension movement in compression hitting bump stop etc.

Pics briefly illustrate, cutting spot plug weld on spindle along with the triangle bracing brackets on RSR types but basically relates to any type strut that needs spindles re-positioned

Once the welds are cut and ground smooth 1st step is to press the spindle in opposite direction, down in this case so the welds can be fully ground smooth, then press to the new lowered ride height, in this case an additional 6mm
Then re-plug weld spindle to strut body and the reinforcement triangles on these RSR's

Next we need to gain extra compression travel so 37mm was cut off the top thread sections, this requires pressing in the internal bushes down that amount prior to machining, followed by machining in the internal detail for the dust seal.
Sometimes special short Bilstein inserts will be required, but we did need to shorten the internal bump stop rubber same distance. but the original length inserts worked on this application
