Trouble removing set screw

Hi All,
Help please! Having trouble removing the set screw from 915 shift coupler.
I've already used about a half can of P.B. over the last few days & its still stuck.
Unfortunately the P.O. rounded the hex hole, & I've had to resort to a combination
of pliers to grip the top lip of the screw. This hasn't worked.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

If it's that bad you might have to drill it out and retap with a larger set screw

He may have used loctite and you may have to apply some map gas to it to melt the loctite.

How about trying a screw extractor? (they have left handed threads -so as you turn - it bites further into the orifice)
If it's already buggered up there is probably no saving it.

Drop a nut over it and weld.

Thanks guys!
I think I'll try heat first, & if that doesn't do it, I'll try drilling it out.

Drilling out an allen head set screw is no easy task. The steel is pretty hard.

Don't put heat directly on the set screw put the heat around the coupler right before and around the set screw area. You want the area to expand enough to remove the set screw.

Thanks for the tips, Zedsn.
Do you think one of those small propane torch will do the job?

You can try that first but it may not get the area hot enough fairly quickly to make the area expand. I always use yellow tank map gas for anything anymore. Propane is old technology so to speak even for a tree shade mechanic like myself.
