Case is together

Well it took almost 10 hours to complete with 3-5 people at any given point. (Including an hour for lunch and probably 90 minutes for philisophical questions and debates) but my case is together!

I especially wanted to thank Souk and Ray911s (and their wives/significant others) for staying for almost 9 HOURS to assist, and lend encouragement.

Thanks to Keith0. for helping install the crank too!

I'm happy with how it turned out! Souk took a ton of pictures untill his battery ran out. We'll post them later.

A few "fun moments".

1) We almost forgot the cam chains!
2) I overtoruqed the perimeter bolts by 7 lbs, oops.. But went back one-by-one and un-retorqued them properly.
3) We didn't open beer untill everything was triple checked.

THere were a few more amusing moments, but I'm way to braindead after 9 hours in the garage to share them all now...

THanks again guys, where else would on-line BBS, car guys, recent aquantences put 9 hours in to someone elses motor "just because." THANKS!

My pleasure,Chris. Now that I've tried it on your motor, my spare motor is getting serious consideration for a rebuild.

Thanks for the pizza and beers. I had a good time...I'm a little light in the head right now too, so I'll get it together tomorrow with more.

hmmm, sorry I missed it Chris! You forgot the fact that it was also 14 degrees F outside as well! Looking forward to the pictures! Hope you guys put an oil pump in there Did you build it on the stand or in the basement?

So does that mean there was no GT-3 tourny?

OIL PUMP? WHAT OIL PUMP?

Yep, we got it all in.. Took a survey before we put the halves together. We took out time and were careful with everyone checking the others work. We had a "plan of attack" with everyone clear on their task and procedure once we mated the halves.

It is assembled on the stand. We had two heaters in the garage and in fact, despite the 7 degrees outside it was a warm and toasty 70 degrees in the garage.

Sorry you missed it too, but the top end is another day, and cam-timing reserved for your expertise..

Glad to hear it worked out. I am looking forward to the rest of the assembly. Hopefully I will not have to leave early next time. I want to get some experience with timing the cams.

I must admit despite the cold outside it was very warm in the garage. I have new respect for propane heaters.

I was glad to be there, Chris. It was a great time; good bunch of guys here in Chicagoland -and Esther gets my vote for patron saint of the Porsche faithful. I'm looking forward to being there when the top end goes together!

Well hopefully that'll be sooner than later... You're welcome to assist, though the pay scale (pizza and beer) isn't quite market competetive...

Chris,

Pizza and beer is as good as an unlimited expense account. “Will work for food”. In fact we may never leave. After all, that is how we all made it through college. Now where did that funnel go....
